Horror Tackles – Yet Another Rant

I’ve approached the situation of tackling in English football previously in two posts, in both instances it was (in my opinion) that the tacklers had been deemed ‘dirty’ because of the resulting injuries caused. So let’s delve into the mire once more with two much talked about tackles this week – one from Vincent Kompany and another from Glen Johnson.

The Arrogance Of The English Premier League

As Manchester United crashed out of the Champions League group stage last night (along with the more graceful exit of Manchester City) it left arguably the 3rd and 4th best domestic teams flying the Premier League flag. Worryingly neither club is fancied over Barcelona or Real Madrid as winners of the crown – wait, Real Madrid? Since when were English teams chasing Madrid down BEFORE Barcelona…

Abandon Ship! The Gunners Are Losing Men Fast

This article is a re-post and merge of my now defunct OurFootballBlog football writing blog from 2010 – 2011.

Between Internet connection problems, a weekend and a bout of dog sitting it has been a whole week since our last post! Fear not, it’s been one worth waiting for as I bring you news of no less than three players on their way out of Arsenal in the very near future.

For those interested (ie most of you) it’s not difficult to name the three players who’ve been rife with recent speculation, however it seems as if this is quickly developing into serious transfer news rather than tittle tattle. Let’s take a look at the individuals.

Roll Up Roll Up! The Who, What, Why, & Where? Andre Villas-Boas & The Chelsea Merry-Go-Round

This article is a re-post and merge of my now defunct OurFootballBlog football writing blog from 2010 – 2011.

So far it’s been a close-season of managers on the move and one position in particular has been hard to miss since the season finished – Chelsea are on the lookout for another first team coach (note my use of phrase) and after much conjecture it seems we may finally have a front runner, Andre Villas-Boas of Porto.

Are Spurs About To Self Destruct?

This article is a re-post and merge of my now defunct OurFootballBlog football writing blog from 2010 – 2011.

I’ve got an interesting twist on the Spurs saga for you this evening. What started as a fairly standard kicking at the Bernabeu has started to manifest into something completely different, are Tottenham about to self destruct? Let’s see…

How (Not) To Beat Barcelona (At Football)

This article is a re-post and merge of my now defunct OurFootballBlog football writing blog from 2010 – 2011.

When Arsenal beat Barcelona little more than a couple of weeks ago I felt the win was a hollow one, because for me they didn’t exploit any of the weaknesses of their opponents intentionally, although those weaknesses were responsible for both goals scored. After last nights result we’ll today deal with how not to beat Barcelona at football.

Protecting The Tackler: A Follow Up

This article is a re-post and merge of my now defunct OurFootballBlog football writing blog from 2010 – 2011.

After a personal busy period we’re well overdue a post and what better way to kick things off again with a follow up to my previous post – Protecting The Tackler. Today we focus on two incidents in last nights AC Milan v Tottenham game, and for those who saw it you’ll already know where we’re going with this.

Protecting The Tackler

This article is a re-post and merge of my now defunct OurFootballBlog football writing blog from 2010 – 2011.

There are a few things I could have ‘emergency blogged’ about today, but I’m going to have to vent again. I’m going to do something that isn’t done very often in footballing circles and it’s even less popular at the moment but today it’s time to – protect the tackler.

Don’t Blame The Pitch, It’s Just Embarrassing!

This article is a re-post and merge of my now defunct OurFootballBlog football writing blog from 2010 – 2011.

I won a small amount on the United game on Monday night and I was really tempted to stick a tenner on Young Boys for last nights game and how I wish I had. My own problems aside, Spurs had issues left right and centre, but mainly in the centre. Before the game there was the usual English attitude – we’ll win easily, looking forward to the group stages. The biggest indicator of this for me was the reluctance to blame the pitch before the game, if there was any hint that it could be a tough game that topic would be raised, but it wasn’t, because they thought they would sail it.
