This is a business run by Paul and Claire over at TheBigMuscle, they’ve been running for a good few years now and after competing a few projects together they decided to let me loose on their eCommerce site which until now was running from static HTML they were having to update by hand every time a sale was made!So, in I step, the concept design was done via a graphic artist they know and work closely with, I tweaked it to suit my new best friend Magento. Using Magento allowed us to do all sorts of detailed work with the site without managing lots of different areas, one such area is the advanced multi-store features Magento offers. Essentially we are running each of their sites (at time of writing UK, Ireland, France and Germany to follow in a few days time) through the one installation, using the same product catalogue, the same payment gateways and the same delivery options (where we want to of course) to ensure minimum content reproduction. Using Magento we can give a single product several different names depending on the store you are visiting – the obvious use here is for language changes.

Frankly I could talk all day about the many different areas covered on this project, the short run down is a feature rich Magento installation, some heavy on-site search engine optimisation including country specific domains and full re-working of their Google Adwords campaign. We’re not leaving any stone unturned on this one so expect a Wordpress blog accompanying Magento in the new year.

This site represents the latest of my numerous designs for Refined Internet – the B2C side of my services and holds the proud title of the one I’m happiest with and I feel it finally conveys the brand correctly.

Underneath the hood the site is built on Wordpress 2.7, but previously it has also been on the Website Baker platform. It started life as a full xHTML 1.1 compliant site, however with _blank throwing up errors in that doc-type and my reluctance to use Javascript hacks workarounds ended up backing down to 1.0 transitional.

One of the main aspects of this site is jQuery integration – it’s all over the place but in a useful manner with the main aspect being the banner section at the top of the page, it’s using the Slide plug-in and I’ve incorporated paging functionality. One problem I had was how to deal with visits to new pages once you’ve been presented with the banner on the homepage. The solution (rather than to create a separate very similar template) was to use some of the advanced Wordpress functions to determine if the current page is the homepage, if it isn’t then hide the banner section. Everything is still accessible by clicking the drop-down button that appears in such an instance.

This is the latest version of the Gravity Interactive site and it belongs to a Web Design and Development company I’ve worked with for some time now. The site design is nice and minimalist and only uses one whole image for the main design.

It has been built on the Wordpress blogging and CMS platform in order to build in a regular company update and I’ve incorporated some jQuery as a sliding banner section. The contact form follows my usual front-end jQuery validation and back-end PHP eMail validation, this time the design of the forms it a little more modern and large in appearance.

Over the longer term there will be a regular monthly focus on Search Engine Optimisation linked to the local areas the company aims to serve.
