If I Don’t Protect The England Team Who Will?

This article is a re-post and merge of my now defunct OurFootballBlog football writing blog from 2010 – 2011.

Hi all from sunny Slovenia! Ok its raining at the moment but my shoulders can testify to the sun over the past few days. I’m here making an emergency post in light of some of the appalling football we’ve all seen during the World Cup so far and in a bid to protect our National team. Small note, there wont be a photo for this post till I’m back and Danny, spellchecking is a little difficult via the iPad so less of the English lesson till I’m back! =)

We’re Blaming Wayne?

Boys and Girls I’m putting an immediate stop to this one, if I here one more Chelsea fan moan about Rooney after Lampards England performances over the length of his career I swear I’m gonna pop them in the face. Honestly, moan about my work when it’s not going well after years of solid delivery then I’ll tell you where it goes as well. As I mentioned in my flops post, we put these players on unobtainable pedestals then moan when those unrealistic aims aren’t met. Newsflash ‘England Fans’ no one player is playing well in this World Cup for any team, so lets not heap even more pressure on the one player who needs to play with a bit of freedom.

Blame The Fans?

Nope… Oh you want more? Ok don’t blame the fans because they’re right, the performances aren’t good enough and when you travel to watch an over hyped tournament then you expect amazing football for your pennies. Two problems here though, its over hyped and no one promised you amazing football when you sold your house to travel to the other side of the world to watch football. I mean seriously…

Then Let’s Blame…

The ball (ok separate post for this after the tournament so lets not use this just yet). I mean, Mr Capello. Three whole managers later and we’re still playing 442 with the same problems on the wings and the same problems up front, is it just me or is this side screaming out for 433 / 451, with Joe Cole on the left, Lennon on the right, Barry / Lampard in the middle and Gerrard just off Rooney. That gives us defensive solidity, lightning fast counter attacks and that all important creative spark in Joe Cole. Capello is currently and very stubbornly sticking to a system that has not worked for a long time now, 442 is far to easy to deal with at the top level of football and he needs to see that sooner rather than later.

As for me? I’ll be watching Wednesdays game somewhere very quiet indeed, because whatever happens it’ll be a tough night in Slovenia for the English… Ahem Sprechen ze Deutsch?
