Skills Overview

Website Design

My website design experience is extensive and coming initially from a programming background has resulted in a high level of XHTML / CSS development. My primary server side language would be PHP, but I’m generally comfortable working in and around most programming languages regardless of my previous experience with the language. I’m extremely comfortable using Photoshop either in slicing existing designs or creating my own. This is an area I continually seek to improve in terms of quality and producing fresh designs using the latest technologies.

eCommerce

I’ve used several eCommerce packages; however I’ve tended to align myself with Cubecart and more recently Magento. I find the former extremely easy to develop templates for, integrating XHTML / CSS templates with ease; however it lacks the power of Magento. I believe Magento has a very bright future and intend to fully develop my skills in this area with a view to making it a (of not the) primary part of my skill set in the very near future.

Search Engine Optimisation

I believe SEO has become a key requirement in modern website design in order to ensure the site achieves its wider business objectives alongside its brand aims. By integrating SEO at the initial stages of website planning, focus can be placed on the overall website sitemap, content and keyword discovery / deployment resulting in a natural emphasis on a search engine friendly website during development, incorporating extensive on page optimisation and encouraging off page optimisation.
